WARSAW, Poland. August 5 (PSN) – Lukasz Piszczek on Tuesday decided to end his international career on the Poland national team.
The Borussia Dortmund right-back hinted some time ago that after the FIFA 2018 World Cup in Russia he would say goodbye to the kadra and finally made such a decision.
The 33-year-old admitted that he had long considered this decision and it was not an easy one take.
“Sometimes you have to make difficult but rational decisions. After long reflections, I did it. My adventure with the national team has come to an end. For 11 years I have always proudly represented Poland in the senior national team. It was a special time. I will always remember it very fondly. I would like to thank the fans for their support, Coaches: Leo Beenhakker, Franciszek Smuda, Waldemar Fornalik and Adam Nawalka, thank you for your trust. I have always tried to learn from them as much as possible, draw from their experience and knowledge. Thank you to all the people associated with the training staff and my teammates, with whom I had the honor to represent Poland in these 65 matches with the white eagle on my chest.” announced Piszczek on his Facebook regarding the retirement.
Piszczek made his debut for the bialo-czerwoni on February 3, 2007 in a match against Estonia.
In total, he appeared on the national team in 65 games, scoring 3 goals, the last in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Montenegro (2:1). He also played in the UEFA EURO in 2008, 2012 and 2016, and made two appearances during the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
