WARSAW, Poland. March 24 (PSN) – Poland made it two wins out of two at the start of their UEFA EURO 2020 qualifying campaign with a 2:0 win against Latvia.

The first half of the game at the PGE National Stadium in Warsaw ended quite unexpectedly for the home fans. Suffice to say that Latvia had more shots on target than the Poles, even forcing Wojciech Szczesny to make an important save in the early minutes of the encounter.
Poland’s attack was little to be seen and each offensive push left not much promise due to a well organized Latvian defense.
After the half, things started to look much differently. Jerzy Brzeczek’s talk in the team change room ended waking the bialo-czerwoni up and a much more determined side took the field.
Robert Lewandowski took charge first, leaping high to collect a cross from left-back Arkadiusz Reca in the penalty box in the 74th minute. The Bayern Munich striker ended up heading the ball straight into the net, beating Latvia’s Pavels Steinbors to put the Poles up 1:0.
Once the first goal came, Latvia’s defense started to crumble, allowing Poland more space and time to attempt in extending their lead.
In a span of only 8 minutes, after a myriad of corner kicks for the hosts, Kamil Glik managed to score the second goal for Poland during this occasion for the 2:0 result.
Thanks to this second straight win, Brzeczek’s side now lead first place in Group G in UEFA EURO 2020 qualifying with 6 points.
