WARSAW, Poland. June 10 (PSN) – The Polish national team played their best game on Monday under Jerzy Brzeczek. The bialo-czerwoni at the National Stadium in Warsaw beat Israel 4:0 in UEFA EURO 2020 Qualification.
Final score: Poland – Israel 4:0
Poland from the first minute started playing at a higher tempo than usual, creating smarter plays and better timed runs which eventually caused the Israeli’s trouble all game long. This match also wasn’t any ordinary qualifier either, but Poland’s 100th anniversary of being an independent nation again. Due to this significance, Poland were outfitted with special centenary kits by NIKE for Monday.
Lewandowski’s deep through ball in the 35th minute started it all. The pass saw Kedziora first receive the ball in the Isreali penalty area, which he then passed it off to Piatek, who shot the ball into the right corner of the goal and did not give the goalkeeper any chance. While Poland went into the half with a goal ahead, Brzeczek’s team were far from finished.
Nine minutes into the second half, the referee dictated a penalty shot for the Polish national team due to an Israeli hand ball. Defender Yeini’s hand made contact with the ball from an attempted cross into the penalty box by Grosicki and the verdict was quickly made. Moments later, Lewandowski calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net to further Poland’s lead.
Three minutes later it was already 3:0. This time it was Grosicki who entered the list of goal scorers. Receiving a beautiful long ball from Zielinski, the pacy winger managed to strike the volley at first touch and blast it in the net to keep the home team’s momentum.
Things didn’t end there, as in the 84th minute the score soon became 4:0 in the Poles favour, courtesy of Kadzior who beat goalkeeper Harush in a typical 1-on-1 situation.
Poland now go into into the summer as the undefeated leaders of Group G, having scored 8 goals in 4 games and none conceded. Their next opponent will be Slovenia on September 6th in Ljubljana.
