Italy and Portugal to Face Poland in the UEFA Nations League

LAUSANNE, Switzerland. January 24 (PSN) – On Wednesday, the anticipated group draw for the UEFA Nations League took place, which will be officially inaugurated in Europe starting September 2018.

In this new competition which will take the place of the once criticized meaningless friendlies, The Poland national team found itself drawn into Group 3 of League A, where it will face Italy and Portugal.

“I’m happy after each draw. (…) Portugal is a great opponent, the champion of Europe. As for Italy, they will definitely approach these new matches ambitiously.” said Adam Nawalka, Poland’s Selekcjoner.

For the home games, Poland will not play at the Narodowy Stadion in Warsaw. Instead, There are rumors that the games with the Portuguese and Italians will be hosted in either Chorzow, Gdansk or Wroclaw

All 55 UEFA teams are divided into 4 Divisions called ‘Leagues’ based on playing level. 12 teams in League A, 12 teams in League B, 15 teams in League C, and 16 teams in League D. In each division, four groups are formed (three or four teams in each group) and play each other both home and away.

In the top division League A, each winner of the four groups go on to play in the finals (the “Final Four”), with two semi-finals and one final to decide which team becomes the UEFA Nations League champion. Teams can also be promoted and relegated to a higher or lower division. After the 2018 FIFA World Cup, and the winner of the UEFA Nations League will be decided in June 2019.

It is also worth noting that for political reasons, Armenia could not have been placed in one group with either Azerbaijan, Russia or Ukraine.

The finals of the Final Four will take place on June 5-9, 2019. The draw for these finals is to take place in December.

Group 1: Netherlands, France, Germany

Group 2: Iceland, Switzerland, Belgium

Group 3: Poland, Italy, Portugal

Group 4: Croatia, England, Spain

LEAGUE B

Group 1: Ukraine, Czech Republic, Slovakia

Group 2: Russia, Sweden, Turkey

Group 3: Bosnia and Hercegovina, Northern Ireland, Austria

Group 4: Denmark, Ireland, Wales

LEAGUE C

Group 1: Israel, Albania, Scotland

Group 2: Estonia, Finland, Greece, Hungary

Group 3: Cyprus, Bulgaria, Norway, Slovenia

Group 4: Lithuania, Montenegro, Serbia, Romania

LEAGUE D

Group 1: Georgia, Latvia, Kazachhstan, Andorra

Group 2: Belarus, Moldova, San Marino , Luxembourg

Group 3: Azerbejdżan, Wyspy Owcze, Malta, Kosowo

Group 4: Macedonia, Armenia, Liechtenstein, Gibraltar
