WARSAW, Poland. March 18 (PSN) – On Thursday the qualifying for UEFA EURO 2020 officially begins, where Poland will first measure their strength with Austria.
Poland coach Jerzy Brzeczek has stressed that due to the importance of the fixture and lack of time there will not be any experimenting taking place on Thursday.
“We are starting the qualifiers with the favorite to win in this group. Austria is an unpleasant team, difficult to play against. The fitness levels of their players is also impressive.” said Jerzy Brzeczek in a press conference on Monday.
“There will be no time and space for experiments. We don’t have much time to prepare for the game and all teams are in the same situation.” stated the former Wisla Plock coach.
Recent public opinion in Poland also continues that the bialo-czerwoni should play with a formation incorporating three strikers, with Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich), Krzysztof Piatek (AC Milan) and Arkadiusz Milik (Napoli) all on form. Brzeczek in turn shut down any possibility of this happening against Austria.
“If we are to assume, hypothetically, that we will play three strikers and lose money, what then? Its not about the number of strikers which will determine how many goal situations we’ll be able to create. In order for strikers to shoot they must have passes. An appropriate proportion must be maintained.” argued Brzeczek.
Poland take on Austria on March 21 in Vienna.
