COPENHAGEN, Denmark. September 1 (PSN) – The bialo-czerwoni received a severe lesson in football from the Danes in the FIFA World Cup 2018 qualifiers, deservedly losing 0:4.
Final score: Denmark – Poland 4:0
For the tenth time in FIFA history, Poland played a game in Copenhagen. Unfortunately, after the end of it, the mood of Polish fans will not be good, as Adam Nawalka’s team lost big to Denmark. This marks the seventh victory for the Danes against the Poles in the Danish capital.
Before the game, there was a lot of talk about the fact that this is the last chance for the Danes to join the fight for World Cup qualification. The Scandinavian team started the qualifiers in a bad style and the match with Poland was really the last chance for them to reverse their fate.
Poland, on the other hand, entered the game full of confidence. Thinking the encounter with Denmark would be business as usual. That logic dropped rather hard on them as it turned out that it was in fact the Danes who would reign superior on Friday. Saying that Age Hareide’s Danish team outplayed Adam Nawalka’s Poles is putting it rather lightly.
Goals for the hosts were scored by Thomas Delaney, Andreas Cornelius, Nicolai Jorgensen and Christian Eriksen. This was also the first defeat for Poland in the FIFA World Cup 2018 qualifiers.
The Poles were trounced by the Danes at all cylinders and were unable respond, with top striker Robert Lewandowski being constantly hounded by the tight Danish defense all night long. This game was undoubtedly, the worst Poland has ever played under national team manager Adam Nawalka.
“It started practically from the first minute. We were prepared to play against the long ball by our opponents. However, there is no need to force an excuse. We were weaker than them.” said Nawalka to Polsat Sport after the game.
“We made too many mistakes. It does worry me, that we were expecting exactly such a game from the Danes.”
After seven matches Poland is still the leader of Group E with 16 points. Behind the bialo-czerwoni is Montenegro and Denmark – both teams whom lost three points already to Poland. Nawalka’s team will now prepare for next Monday, where the Polish team will face Kazakhstan for hopefully their sixth victory.
